They are all dying. We had them through the years as our Christmas trees, and Pa would plant them in the yard. We recently had some tree guys come and give us estimates. WOW, one was way too high. One said he couldn't take on new customers, another wouldn't return my calls. So we settled on one who's estimate was pretty darn good. But I decided to only get the 2 cut down, for now. He wanted to get them down, while the weather was nice, and yard was dry. <br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUIYlf-tm7JGsJrDijFYt5AnVRSILkpln3W_uEA_s0n-jm-5usQalzBZDjjL28EhT_WjUOzB16ZcjBcZpswwp0Bz4afEYNxeUO6zvpSnBuXL2FX3Jrj4-Qd5LD-4noRBOqV0nx1NryWVw/s388/f+dianescommunion2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="388" data-original-width="294" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUIYlf-tm7JGsJrDijFYt5AnVRSILkpln3W_uEA_s0n-jm-5usQalzBZDjjL28EhT_WjUOzB16ZcjBcZpswwp0Bz4afEYNxeUO6zvpSnBuXL2FX3Jrj4-Qd5LD-4noRBOqV0nx1NryWVw/s320/f+dianescommunion2.jpg" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: small;">Diane, me, in front of the tree that was in front of the house. </span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T21bXBJRYRU/X6iEsvDKJRI/AAAAAAAAFMI/-2wm_VjWS40Lj3buUOIYodkwkz8Fgw0hQCLcBGAsYHQ/s3264/Maple%2Btree%2B2020%2B06%2B28c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3264" data-original-width="2448" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T21bXBJRYRU/X6iEsvDKJRI/AAAAAAAAFMI/-2wm_VjWS40Lj3buUOIYodkwkz8Fgw0hQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Maple%2Btree%2B2020%2B06%2B28c.jpg" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: small;">To the right, is the tree in the side yard, from earlier this year. February 2 2015<br />Hello, It is National Heart Awareness Month, Or Heart Defects Awareness Month as I like to put it.<br /><br />Some Heart facts/information:: I read, and share into several Support
Groups, articles on Heart Defects, and Pulmonary Hypertension, almost
every day. Here are some of those selections.<br />
<br />
I have an Interest
List "Heart" set up with over 300+ Groups, Hospital Systems,
Organizations, Non-Profits, all heart related. These Facebook pages adds
into my feeds, and takes forever to scroll through. I also have an
abbreviated one, I use most of the time. (I need to downsize it, but
can'<span class="text_exposed_show">t choose between deleting Rare Diseases, or Genetics)</span><br />
<div class="text_exposed_show">
""Cardiac disease patients bare scars for Kelvingrove exhibition<br />

The Scarred FOR Life project will see a number of photos by Herald
photographer Kirsty Anderson go on display at the Kelvingrove Art
Gallery & Museum in Glasgow for a month from February 13....<br />
Ms

was being organised to raise awareness of congenital heart disease,
which affects one in 125 babies....""<br />

AHA Journals Include: Circulation, Cardiovascular Imaging, and others. But the AHA do mostly Non Congenital Heart Defect Research. In other words,
it is mostly Coronary Heart Disease. The Journals come out, at least
once a month.<br />

Love this quote, but there are several variations.<br />
<span class="fbPhotosPhotoCaption" id="fbPhotoSnowliftCaption" tabindex="0"><span class="hasCaption">"The

preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out,

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of

in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out,
and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!’”<br /> It was said by the man — Hunter S. Thompson 1966<br /> whichever??<br /> <br />
“We've got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn't matter with me

I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will.” ~Martin

My story, is RARE!! I was born with
Multiple Congenital Anomalies, I have PAH, because of the heart and lung
defects. I also have Hemi-vertbrae Scoliosis. I officially have had PAH since my Heart Catheterization when i was
10, in 1967. At that time my pressures were 90, normal is 25. In 2010, when they
finally put me on Meds, the pressure was 160, dr said, that was one of
the highest levels he has seen. My Meds come to my via a speciality
pharmacy, UPS brings them monthly. Thankful to my <a class="ot-hashtag aaTEdf" href="https://plus.google.com/s/%23UPMC" rel="nofollow">#UPMC</a> Medicaid, they cover the $100 a pill, $6,000 a month bill.<br />
Because
of the heart, lung defects, and PAH, i never had energy, always getting
out of breath, last to be choosen in games. The Meds help some. They are talking about adding a
secondary drug, which runs about the same $$.<br />
I have refused the lung transplant, don't feel that is for me. I spent a year flat on my back when I was 12, undergoing the Scoliosis -Halo-Femoral Traction.<br />
I keep busy, make quilts, do Advocacy for Heart Defects and <a class="ot-hashtag aaTEdf" href="https://plus.google.com/s/%23PAH" rel="nofollow">#PAH</a>.<br />

Wednesday I sent off the quilt to the winner, Mary D. I am sure it is going to a good home. :(<br />
Sniff Sniff, missing it. :)<br />
I had Ma take one last picture, so you could see what it looks like finished, and a rod in the Rod pocket. But she isn't use to the new fangled cameras and chopped my head half off.<br />
She hasn't taken many pictures since the days of her Brownie.<br />

I have already heard from both organizations, ( CHP's foundation, and UPMC's Development office, for CVI) and as soon as the monies clear out from Go Fund Me's We Pay account, i will send off checks to both groups. My $1020, when withdrawn, minus the fees, came to $930.78. Fees than were $89.22, 8.74%. Which is about what they have in the FAQ's.<br />
THANK YOU all for the Support, Donations, and Love !!<br />
Who knows, if able, maybe I will do it again in 2 years. BUT forget about those 89 little pieces, something a bit easier.<br />

WOW!! When I started the Heart Defect Research Fund, I expected it would really be like a "raffle", 100 people might give $5 or $10. But for Family, and Friends to gift more, WOW!! I am truly Blessed!!<br />
I am almost to the goal of $1,000, in under a month. <br />
After someone told me, they withdrew some of their monies in their account, of the $400, the amount in the checking account only was $364. The funding source, admits to a 5% fee, plus 2.9 % and $ .30 processing fees, but it was in reality, more like 12% fee. I haven't inputted the Cash on hand, not sure if it would be charged fees also. So I am in reality over my goal amount.<br />
I have emailed both places for information on gifting, and haven't heard back. :(<br />
I need to resend those emails.<br />
<br />
The Quilt is almost complete. I had issues with how the binding turned under, over the Rod Pocket, and ripped it out, and resewed it, But I have the hand sewing half done. <br />

I think the FEATHERED HEART APPLIQUE QUILT is coming along very well. I finished the free-hand quilting, AND the Stitch in the ditch around the blocks. All that is left is the binding and the rod pocket. When there is a quilt show, it is usually required to have a 5" pocket in the back, for a way to hang the quilts. I don't think whoever wins this, will show it, so I am only going to put in a small pocket, for a thin rod, like a small wooden dowel rod. <br />After I hit the bottom with the Echo-stitching, I still had lots of room in the corners. Normally there would be stipple stitching in there, but my stipple stitching isn't very good. But then the Echo-stitching isn't so great either. As I go out from the center, my points and curved scallops got straighter and less loopy. <br />
I did a small free- hand quilting practice run and told mom I was going to do that in the corners, around small hearts I was going to free-hand quilt. She said I shouldn't, Leave it be. BUT I did it any way. It came out pretty well. I only had to rip out one small part, when I messed up. That wasn't the first time, so no biggie.<br />
So in the corners of the large big center block, I chalk marked around a small heart, stitched around it, plus 2 more times. Then I stitched off of it, and did some loops and did some heart loops. So look close at the free -hand stitching in the corners. I know, the lighting isn't very good, and the flash over exposing it.<br />
<br />

I may still do a small satin stitched heart in the middle of each small heart applique, I haven't decided on that yet. Technically you are supposed to quilt to 5". This is from the old days when the batting would disintegrate, so you want stitching to keep it together, and in place. <br />

I worked hard on the Quilt today. I stitched around all of the 89 little pieces.<br />
Sorry I took 4 pictures, 2 with the flash, and two without, none are really that good. I had hoped at least one would show the stitching a bit better.<br />

Maybe if you click on it, and make it full size. It is AWESOME!!<br />
The picture from the front, you can see the puffy ness around each piece.<br />
Tomorrow and Friday I will work on the echo- stitching around the shape of the heart.<br />

Heart Defect Awareness Week is almost finished. St Valentine's Day is tomorrow.<br />
We were supposed to get our Groceries today, but the weather didn't cooperate. <br />
So I spent the time working on the Quilt. First, I taped down the Backing, then the Batting, and then the Quilt top.<br />
Then I Pin Basted the Quilt. You are supposed to PIN it about every 5" apart. But I was worried about holes showing in the center square. I then had to move the other Pin Basted Quilt over to the pile of TO DO Items.<br />
Monday I will start the Stitching of the layers together. Free-Hand Quilting.<br />

TODAY :: <br />
I ended up going with PLAN E. This is what I was going with yesterday, and it wasn't working. I guess, my mind was not functioning in QUILT mode. As I laid there this morning, UH HA, a Revelation came to me.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">DUH!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I was thinking, NOT Clearly, I would sew the 2 sections together, and then do a Diagonal in the middle. I got to that point, and was looking at the 4 seam allowances, and it was NOT GOING TO WORK, at least, not for me.<br />
The quilt turned out a bit bigger than planned, 35 by 35.5, not 32.<br />
The pieces I had, were either Fat quarters ( 18 by 22), Half yards ( 18 by 44) or full yards. The ones I had that were full yards, were the Joann Fabrics ones, and one that was mostly white with no hearts on it. The ones from Joann's, were a bit BUSY, but I had to use them. I also had one from Joann's that said, Faith, Hope, and Charity on it, I think it was a BC one. But at least it had hearts !! ( needed lots for the feathered heart, I didn't want the same pieces too close together)<br />
<br />
The bigger ones I cut a 20 by 20 and the smaller one I cut 18 by 18, and, well, no good.<br />
This morning, I took the large Moda Marbles Dark Hot Pink, it was barely 34 by 40. I only needed a little more. Yesterday, it got to the point, I DID NOT want to piece the backing, Especially down the center, and have it behind the large Feathered heart. Or only add a small 3" piece onto one side, and look lopsided. SO I cut 3 -2.5 " strips to use in the border, off of the Hot Pink. Then got JACK ( the ripper) and took apart the seams on half of the above. Chopped off 2- 5" strips and sewed those to each side of the large Hot Pink, now about 28 by 37.<br />
WALA!!<br />
<br />

Well the Heart Defect Quilt Fundraiser is going slow. I did complete the quilt top. Rather then go up to the quilt store, AGAIN, i used as the sashing, the fabrics that I had. It is a little busier than I had planned, but is still BEAUTIFUL!!<br />

Tomorrow I need to cut 4 pieces to sew together into the back panel, 19 by 19.<br />
It is about 35" by 35. 1/4".<br />
And find where I put the white cotten batting.<br />
There are a few surprises in it. LOL!! ♥<br />
Just hoping i can manage the feathering in the free-hand quilting.<br />
Keep your fingers crossed for me.<br />

Feb 3 2014<br />
Ma and Pa were away to their Class reunion get together. SO home alone, I worked hard on the Heart Defect Awareness Quilt center, the Feathered Heart. WHEW!! Very difficult and forgot about the main thing with appliques, you gotta turn it upside down, so when you trace it and then stick it to the background it is correct side up or orientation. So the numbered pieces were not on the correct side. I had to WING it big.<br />
I had my desk lamp under the kitchen table and opened up the center section for the leaf, that way I could see the Heart outlines through the pink fabric.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">89 little pieces. which didn't go together as well as i had hoped</td></tr>

<br />
The little pieces didn't go together that well, there was some Pink showing through. But when I stitch around them all, hopefully all you see is the stitching. Of course, my free -hand outline stitching is SOSO.<br />

Will do my best, that is all I can do.<br />

Heart Quilt<br />
Ever since realizing that they were doing Catheterizations as early as 1958, but my doctors didn't do mine until i was 10, In 1967, I have wanted to raise funds for heart defect research. <br />
Well, even before that.<br />
Why did they wait? Because of all my issues? Hemi-vertebrae scoliosis, Absent upper left lung lobe, Hypoplasia lower lung lobe, Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), Hypoplasia left Pulmonary Artery and vein.<br />
Officially<br />
<span class="hw">hypoplasia</span> /hy·po·pla·sia/ (<span class="pronOx">-pla´zhah</span>) incomplete development or underdevelopment of an organ or tissue.hypoplas´tic from The Free Dictionary<br />
<br />
So I started ANOTHER QUILT, Do I have unfinished projects? SURE!!<br />
But this was going to be all BRIGHT pink or red fabrics that had HEARTS on it, only I couldn't find enough fabrics. I guess, St Valentine's Day is the season, and I was looking in October, which is when I can get to one or two quilt stores. (Birthday month) <br />
As I worked on the heart, I decided I needed more. I managed to find some and order online more pinks and some had hearts on them, from a local store. January was SOOO cold, I wasn't going out much. I don't want to get sick, so if it is below 30, NOT going out. Then they rescheduled my Heart dr appt twice, and HAD to go out when it was 8 out there. Thankfully the high was 34, and it warmed up later, after I was home. ;(<br />
<br />
I had found a GREAT idea in a Quilt Magazine a few years ago, a feathered heart. Only 89 pieces, TINY pieces.<br />
But very Beautiful.<br />
So going to post the Jpegs I did, i hope I don't get into trouble:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Beautiful!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
It is supposed to be a shadow-work type applique. But just want the main layer with all kinds of PINKS, since I couldn't find very many reds.<br />
But ended up using a few of the reds, because I needed more variety. I didn't want the same fabrics to be too close together.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">89 little pieces</td></tr>

HMM?? Can i do this?<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">All marked out on the steam a seam </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I tried to put all the ones for the same fabric together, but as I was going around, the pieces for the same fabric are going to be too close together. I found I NEEDED more fabrics, the more the merrier. <br />
Utilizing 7 fabrics, pieces 1-8-15-22-29-36-43-50-57-64-71-78-85<br />
<br />
I tried several different ways, using programs in the computer and on Mom's Computer, but i finally went to the market and used their copy machine. The Heart base design needed to be enlarged 200%.<br />

Cross Quilt<br />
I bought a Laser-Cut Cross but then searched forever for just the right fabric to fuse it onto. I found it in a Pittsburgh quilt store. It has little Christian fish on it. But i had asked to go to 2 quilt stores on my bday and only got to one. In the end, I had to buy the border fabrics at Joann's. They weren't quite what i wanted, but oh well.<br />

I added some pieces of lace, piping, trim, rick rack, and using the fancy stitches on the machine, WA LA!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cMhcGc0R6TY/Uk4AzxslgNI/AAAAAAAABBQ/xvMupXp_JOE/s1600/vests+z+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cMhcGc0R6TY/Uk4AzxslgNI/AAAAAAAABBQ/xvMupXp_JOE/s320/vests+z+(1).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Actually these were made before the MACHINE, i was using Gramma's old Singer, or Kathy's. Kathy's had fancier stitches.</div>

WILD and CRAZY Lining print. I used a velco closure, bought some wooden Pumpkin buttons but never was brave enough to make buttonholes on this.<br />
I made a real fancy vest for someone, wanted $100 for it. But my sister asked her, How much do YOU think it is worth? Lady said, $50. I put a ton of work into it too.DEKowalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09156777453900776841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8028136042723372841.post-82316075997540879262013-10-03T16:35:00.001-07:002013-10-03T16:37:02.097-07:00Bunny Quilts Oct 3 2013Hello I did these Bunny Quilts some time ago. I got a COOL ASUS Tablet at Staples. It was on clearance. Later I got a Transformer 300T Keyboard Dock through Sears.com. I had it delivered to Sears, picked up there, that way didn't have to pay shipping.<br />
BUT i made the Quilted case before i bought the Keyboard Dock, so it is now too small. I need to make a bigger one. Plus, i bought this plastic case for it, and even with that on, it no longer fits. :(<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G0chHj_9QUE/Uk37e3rrHFI/AAAAAAAABAk/F7T8nO6qm-4/s1600/asus+a+(3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G0chHj_9QUE/Uk37e3rrHFI/AAAAAAAABAk/F7T8nO6qm-4/s320/asus+a+(3).JPG" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I added piping to the bottom and top edges. I rounded the top edge, kinda using a dinner plate as a guide.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ryW_DTl1IK4/Uk37fBcpEqI/AAAAAAAABAo/Z_sPa53yu28/s1600/asus+a+(6).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ryW_DTl1IK4/Uk37fBcpEqI/AAAAAAAABAo/Z_sPa53yu28/s320/asus+a+(6).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I quilted around the Paisley motifs, and used the walking foot to sew up the straight edges of each row.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bm-qcNd6cHQ/Uk37d6Nk4EI/AAAAAAAABAQ/MlAKPM7Xm5E/s1600/asus+a+(12).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bm-qcNd6cHQ/Uk37d6Nk4EI/AAAAAAAABAQ/MlAKPM7Xm5E/s320/asus+a+(12).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I sized it up with the 10" Tablet.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitv_UdjgLW_hKJE_TkXR_ZEPRN0geR6i9wFyDJMutizieNaSLTfTXAPmbIHRk94pOXPjNReiMb5yb0w3Rw3w-G_5dKfsSJpeSyCd4Kehrs34HgTveQIYYgApfvDcXsrYZDgHeV0s7C3m0/s1600/asus+a+(17).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitv_UdjgLW_hKJE_TkXR_ZEPRN0geR6i9wFyDJMutizieNaSLTfTXAPmbIHRk94pOXPjNReiMb5yb0w3Rw3w-G_5dKfsSJpeSyCd4Kehrs34HgTveQIYYgApfvDcXsrYZDgHeV0s7C3m0/s320/asus+a+(17).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Inside out to sew the edges together, and show off the quilting. I didn't need to do the piping the whole way along the edges.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bCFtkv1mA0U/Uk37enkMyOI/AAAAAAAABAc/FXXgn9xxUgQ/s1600/asus+a+(21).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bCFtkv1mA0U/Uk37enkMyOI/AAAAAAAABAc/FXXgn9xxUgQ/s320/asus+a+(21).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
It does fit, before the Keyboard dock, and Plastic /rubber case thingy i had bought, after i dropped it on the tile floor at CHP. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-61kT57QgAt8/Uk37ddFYOQI/AAAAAAAABAE/ojJBOQd6TLU/s1600/asus+a+(19).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-61kT57QgAt8/Uk37ddFYOQI/AAAAAAAABAE/ojJBOQd6TLU/s320/asus+a+(19).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

Through the years, i have slowly been finding out more and more about ME.<br />
Once in doing a search i found this list::<br />
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/archive/20061212/mesh/jablonski/syndrome_toc/toc_a.html<br />
Multiple congenital anomalies. WOW!! SO many?<br />
Why not a list without those with Mental retardation syndromes too?<br />
Recently, in doing some research i found another type of list, Multiple Chronic Conditions!<br />
http://cmcd.sph.umich.edu/managing-multiple-chronic-conditions.html<br />
WHAT WOULD THE DIFFERENCE be between the two??<br />
Congenital VS Acquired?<br />
This has some ideas:: <br />
http://www.hhs.gov/ash/initiatives/mcc/index.html<br />
"pose a significant and increasing burden on the health of Americans" <br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
"" Chronic conditions are conditions that last a year or more and require
ongoing medical attention and/or limit activities of daily living.<a href="http://www.hhs.gov/ash/initiatives/mcc/index.html#_edn3" id="_ednref3">3""</a></div>
"concurrent chronic conditions"" <br />
Well, they both sound VERY alike to me!<br />
Ok, Diabetes, Cancer, Alzheimer's, Arthritis, Osteoporosis, Heart Disease for a few.<br />
As opposed to, Heart Defects, Lung Defects, Osteopenia, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, Hemi-Vertebrae Scoliosis.<br />
Drugs that are $6,000 a month. <br />
HMMM??<br />
I was told<br />
"The difference is that "chronic" conditions may exist at the time of birth
but they may also acquired later in life. So, a congenital condition may be
considered a chronic disease but not all chronic diseases are congenital." <br />
SMH!<br />
Sounds to me like, More of them, so they are funded.<br />
Hospital systems should have Departments for those with MCA! The PCP has a hard time keeping up with ALL of our issues.<br />

Twice recently i felt, i REALLY need to use Safety goggles to sew. A few months ago, while sewing the bottom corner of one of the purses, i broke a needle trying to sew through, around 9 layers.<br />
Today, i was using the Button sewing on foot, to sew on a Snap. I ALWAYS hand crank it, and i must have forced it down too hard, and i heard SNAP!!<br />
The big piece of the needle was still screwed in, the smaller piece was hanging by the thread. BUT A SLIVER had hit me, by the bridge of my nose. That could have been EXTREMELY PAINFUL< and i could have been blinded.<br />
I have no idea which came first, it landing or i closed my eyes.<br />
Picture of the Button sew on foot:<br />
http://www.sewsing.com/buttonsewingfoot.php<br />
<br />
I guess, i never learned the lesson of keeping your fingers away from the needle, either. They must have taught it in 7th Grade sewing class. I was home bound tutored that year, and only had English, Spelling, and Math. Of course, my grandmother and i did a lot of sewing, previous to that.<br />
Once while sewing the elastic to the waistband, on an elastic undergarment, i was stretching the elastic, and the finger got a LITTLE too close to the needle.<br />
OUCH!!!<br />
Ma came running, and couldn't figure why i was pulling the thread out from the edge of my finger.<br />
THANKFULLY it hadn't gone through at the nail.<br />
THANKFULLY it wasn't my machine, with the needle in the DOWN position. It would have been EXTREMELY Painful to have the needle stop DOWN IN MY FINGER. AND I WOULD HAVE HAD TO HAND CRANK IT BACK UP!!<br />
But as i sat there, pulling the thread, it finally came to me, i was pulling the thread as it came out of the spool. After i CUT it, i was able to pull the end of the bugger out and apply some pressure to the wound.<br />
<br />
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!<br />
<br />

<div dir="ltr">
May 26 2013 <br />
Hello<br />
Every year my sister goes to the Houston Tx International Quilt show. I had asked her to buy me a laser cut nativity, a cut out, that i had seen in a local quilt store. I even sent her a link to the item. <br />
When she went to the show, she instead found, and bought a kit for a cut out nativity quilt. The kit included a magazine, Quilt It For Christmas 2003, which had an applique designed by Dilys Fronks. It also included instructions and the pattern for the nativity. It came with orangeish batik fabric, which i did not care for, but i had some beautiful blue batik fabric. <br />
This worked out MUCH better, i could make a few.<br />
First, i needed lots of fusible web, black fabric, and tiny scissors.<br />
Using the rotary cutter, rulers, and cutting mat, i cut the fabrics and fusible webbing to the size i needed, with some extra. (always add extra for around the sides, the fusing isn't the best on the edges) I had to tape sections together, because the webbing was not big /wide enough.<br />
I traced the nativity pattern onto the paper side of the fusible web. I had "colored in" with my pencil the sections which would be the base, So i did NOT cut that part out.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2epXzQOezA8/UYhcBNrND4I/AAAAAAAAAe4/BjKfASU6jQQ/s1600/Copy+of+IMAG0091.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2epXzQOezA8/UYhcBNrND4I/AAAAAAAAAe4/BjKfASU6jQQ/s320/Copy+of+IMAG0091.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Cut out the white portions.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Following the fusing instructions of the web, i fused it onto the wrong side of the black fabric.<br />
Holding my breath, took my scissors and cut into the fused fabric. <br />
The magazine instructions called for 3 sections, but i only did two, and straightened off the top, to make it easier to hang.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I was getting sore fingers cutting, it took me a long time</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">ALL DONE !!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Now the final trimming, then audition it against the batik fabric.<br />

At one of the quilt classes i had taken, the teacher said, unless you are doing a binding around a curve, you do not have to do bias binding. BUT on this, the cut work binding is SO beautiful, i have to do it that way.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Need Blue-Black-Blue sections, and Black-Blue-Black sections, to alternate.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Two segments, one blue- black- blue, and one black- blue- black. Cut at a 45 degree angle. The instructions called for some strips to be cut at one inch wide and some at 1" and 1/4" wide, i did them all the same at, 1+ 1/4".<br />

After pressing the top section i pinned it to the Batting and Backing.<br />

I had a slight mishap as i trimmed away the extra. I hadn't made sure the folded binding, in the corner, was out of the way, and snipped it a tad. Thankfully i was able to fix it.<br />
I added 2 loops as hangers as i sewed on the binding. <br />

Hello Ok, i was wrong, it was not Timtex, but Peltex. It is an Ultra Firm Stabilizer. I cut the pieces short on all sides, so really didn't have any problems, until i went to turn it inside out. OUCH!!.<br />
The first one didn't have outer pockets, and i decided i HAD to have outer pockets.<br />
I put one big one in the back side of the purse, and quilted the front section.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z1kaoOL7uh0/UYhPOGQHBbI/AAAAAAAAAds/L-CNwT562YI/s1600/IMAG0484.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z1kaoOL7uh0/UYhPOGQHBbI/AAAAAAAAAds/L-CNwT562YI/s320/IMAG0484.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Peltex interfacing/ stabilizer</span></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2mXkD6vvIb8/UYhPmcRxDwI/AAAAAAAAAd0/9Y0BIXXY0Hg/s1600/IMAG0481.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2mXkD6vvIb8/UYhPmcRxDwI/AAAAAAAAAd0/9Y0BIXXY0Hg/s320/IMAG0481.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Front (on right) is quilted, Back has a pocket, bottom is its own piece. <br />I cut the Peltex in from all sides, making it a bit easier to sew the seams. It is a bit thick!</span></span></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I didn't have enough fabric to do the bottom as one with the front. I had to make it its own little piece, which is what i hated about the purchased patterns. It took me a while to figure how this was going to work with the corner treatment, but it worked out just the same. <br />
You are supposed to steam heat the Peltex into shape, it only worked soso. I used my Tailor's Pressing Ham and curved it with that.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pressed under the top seam allowance, where i will turn it under.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzh4XbM-xPnbbaOeXNQwua72scsFa0zVkrwDdXBBFXbCKdTaDEpktw3YGNeLeVSSSlQQiOiGPFxMkTSxJklMj-QrcorSRW0ttS0kgRYloA1n1cKNzTmHjnTiBeBElxcq3PBRU2NNaZNTY/s1600/IMAG0489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzh4XbM-xPnbbaOeXNQwua72scsFa0zVkrwDdXBBFXbCKdTaDEpktw3YGNeLeVSSSlQQiOiGPFxMkTSxJklMj-QrcorSRW0ttS0kgRYloA1n1cKNzTmHjnTiBeBElxcq3PBRU2NNaZNTY/s320/IMAG0489.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">It is a little curved. It is enough for me.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I cut the Peltex in, about a half inch or more, and sewed the seam allowances between 1/4 and 1/2". The Bernina doesn't like bumps, and this way I didn't have trouble sewing with one side of the foot, on a sidewalk kinda issue.<br />
<br />
The Lining i did as i did the other one, adding inner pockets, and extra interfacing where the magnetic snaps would go. The lining bottom i sewed into one of the lining sides, so it is one long piece. <br />This also caused me some issues, as how to do the bottom corner. But it all worked out ok.<br />
The strap i did a little narrower, because i didn't have as much of the fabric.<br />

The BIG problem was sewing around the top, sewing the lining and outer part together. I had to fight the Peltex. If i had had the energy i would have pushed the machine into the upper position on my cabinet, then I could have sewn it using the free arm.<br />
AND boy i had a struggle turning it inside out.<br />
But it looks GREAT!! I have even gotten a few compliments.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">COOL!! SO CUTE!!</td></tr>

Oh the goofy camera, when i take out the memory card i must hit the battery and the date resets. I did NOT make this in 2009.<br />
<br />
